Philly Cheesesteak Loaded Fries combine crispy thick-cut fries topped with tender seared sirloin steak, sautéed onions and green peppers, and a generous blend of melted mozzarella and cheddar cheese, finished with fresh green onions for a deliciously indulgent appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

Fries

  • 680 g frozen thick-cut French fries
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided

Steak and Vegetables

  • 200 g sirloin steak, trimmed and cut into strips
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, sliced

Cheese and Garnish

  • 100 g mozzarella cheese, grated (1 cup)
  • 100 g cheddar cheese, grated (1 cup)
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions

  1. Cook the fries: Cook the frozen thick-cut French fries according to the package instructions using an oven or air fryer until they are crispy and golden brown.
  2. Prepare the steak: Trim any visible fat from the sirloin steak and cut it into thin strips. Season the strips with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat and sear the steak strips until nicely browned but not overcooked to avoid toughness. Remove the steak to a plate and set aside.
  3. Sauté the vegetables: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the same pan. Sauté the sliced onions and green pepper over medium heat for about 4 minutes until tender. Remove to a separate plate and set aside.
  4. Assemble the loaded fries: Once the fries are cooked and crispy, spread them out evenly on a large cast iron pan or a baking sheet. Sprinkle half of the grated mozzarella and cheddar cheese mixture evenly over the fries.
  5. Add steak and vegetables: Layer the seared steak strips along with the sautéed green peppers and onions on top of the cheese-covered fries.
  6. Top with remaining cheese and melt: Sprinkle the rest of the cheese mixture on top. Place under a broiler for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove from the broiler and sprinkle the sliced green onions over the top. Serve immediately while hot and cheesy.

Notes

  • Use thick-cut fries for best texture and sturdiness to hold the toppings.
  • Don’t overcook the steak to keep it tender and juicy.
  • Broil on high for a short time to melt cheese quickly; keep an eye on it to avoid burning.
  • Feel free to substitute sirloin with ribeye or flank steak for a different flavor profile.
  • For extra spice, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce before serving.
